Divorce
We have extensive experience handling all issues in contested or uncontested divorce and legal separation. We use advanced financial planning skills to thoroughly evaluate the fiscal components of your divorce. Financial affairs can be re-ordered so that you and your spouse are financially stable following your divorce. We can work to ensure that your marital estate is equitably divided. We handle all divorce-related issues including domestic violence orders of protection.
Divorce Mediation
Do you want to avoid expensive divorce litigation? Are you interested in circumventing a bitter child custody battle? Our firm has extensive family law mediation experience. We can help you and your spouse negotiate the terms of your marital settlement agreement without involving a judge.
Alimony/Spousal Maintenance
We use our extensive financial experience to review the financial circumstances of each spouse. We advise clients on their eligibility to receive or obligation to supply alimony and will explain the tax implications of spousal maintenance. Our firm represents either side.
Pensions and QDROs
Do you have questions about your right to part of your estranged spouse’s benefit or contribution plans? We obtain Qualified Domestic Relations Orders (QDROs) on behalf of clients seeking to divide pension plans, ESOPs, 401(k)s and 403(b)s.
Child Custody and Visitation
The process of determining a time-share for your children can be very emotional. We will review your family situation and present custody and visitation options that provide you, your spouse and your children with the greatest benefit. We help couples establish primary residential care and visitation schedules that allow both parents to maintain a relationship with their children. We also handle matters of parent/child relocation.
Child Support
Following divorce, both parents remain financially obligated to a child until the child reaches 18 years of age. Financial child support is set by state guidelines that consider each parent’s income, custody specifications and the child’s specific needs. We also evaluate additional factors that may not be covered under state guidelines, such as day care and preschool costs, college tuition costs, extracurricular activity fees and health insurance co-pays.
Post-Decree Issues
Would you like to modify a condition of your existing divorce agreement? Post-decree modifications require evidence of a significant change in circumstances. We will evaluate your current situation and will present your wish to modify your divorce agreement to a judge.
Paternity
The legal act of establishing parentage is essential to set parameters for child support, custody and visitation. We file paternity actions for clients throughout Northern Illinois.
